Digital Animation – 20 Second Clip

bird thumbFor the second piece of animation, in my ‘computer animation’ unit (view first video) I was given a short 15 second sound clip and was asked to invent, imagine and design a scenario that fitted the audio elements in the clip.

My gut instinct jumped to some animal knocking on wood, then eating and munching food and finally a loud noise goes off to startle this animal from finishing their meal.

My tutor instructed me to hand-draw initial ideas and inspirations for the animation, as well as storyboards. As I’m sure you can tell, I am no artist, I don’t draw very often, however, I do enjoy the past-time and so have decided to include a few of my rough sketchesbird animation sketch from book2

Latterly, I designed my background and character predominantly using Adobe Illustrator. I constructed the animation in Adobe Flash, employing a 12 frame per second ratio for the video.

Digital Animation – 1 Minute Clip

background -home - 1Latterly, in my ‘computer animation’ unit (view the timeline I created earlier in the course) I was tasked to design and implement a piece of digital animation.

This was to last 1-2 minutes long, was to be themed around fantasy and mythology and was required to have a design brief and storyboard to evidence my creative process.

Initially, I drew up an extravagant tale about a young Cyclops who enjoyed playing darts but was sad because he had bad eyesight and so missed the board, meaning he had to seek some glasses. He travelled to Earl the Owl’s Eye Emporium, the most reputable optician in town and purchased his unique one-lensed glasses. When he returned to his dart board, he didn’t miss a shot and was very happy with his new spectacles.

Admittedly, I was naïve in believing I could create this rather ambitious film given this was my first time using the specialist computer software. I had to sacrifice much of the story in lieu of creating a relatively professional looking animation in the time frame enforced.

I designed my backgrounds and character primarily using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I constructed the animation in Adobe Flash, employing a 12 frame per second ratio for the video.

In reflection, I would have preferred to produce a more creative and imaginative animation but given the circumstance and the meticulous effort exerted in ‘sketching’ each element from nothing, I am pleased with my creation – click on the image above or follow this link: A Cyclops Called Calvin.

During my ‘client-side customisation of web pages’ unit at college, I was tasked to design and create a website (front page).

As a fan of reggae music, I decided to centre my web page around the inimitable life of Bob Marley.

To formulate my website I utilised Adobe Dreamweaver. I implemented CSS and a scripting language in the development of my page . These processes embody some of the most complex functions capable by online media. I applied these utilities in a much more fundamental capacity, for example: setting the page’s overall size, creating configured lists and positioning each element consistently.

Animation Timeline

It consists of an extensive timeline detailing the historical development and evolution of animation.

Digital Analytic Experience – I have experience with online statistical analysis software SEMrush, involving search engine optimisation, tracking and benchmarking all manner of engagement levels, as well as troubleshooting websites’ issues. Communication Skills – I advanced my communication skills significantly through participation in a ‘live’ task for The National Lottery. I was privileged to be awarded as one of three groups to give over my presentation to company executives from the philanthropic organisation. Together with my academic qualifications and experience in the work place, I would like to add three complementary skill sets. 

Logical Problem-Solving Skills: one of my favourite challenges of university involved looking at a company’s current situation, analysing it and judging what should be the most important future actions. I believe my exam performance, in which I managed to come to the same conclusions as my tutors, granting me 76%, exemplifies my progression of this practice. Good Team Player and Leadership Qualities: I thrive working in a group context and greatly enjoy the opportunity for social and intellectual interactions, but am equally at home working independently.

IT Skills. I have utilised Microsoft Office extensively, including statistical spreadsheets (Excel) and database design (Access). I also have experience with Adobe’s graphical editing software such as, Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash.

INTERESTS                               

I love playing sports, particularly football and tennis and help organise a 5-aside match on a weekly-basis.  Reading both fiction and non-fiction is also one of my favourite pastimes. I strongly enjoy many aspects of technology, a personal favourite of mine is the Technology Entertainment and Design online videos (TED talks).  Also, I browse various platforms of social media, helping to keep up-to-date in the rapid, dynamic and evolving digital domain.

triptychI created this art piece during the ‘graphic design’ unit of my college course.

The assignment involved the creation of an eye-catching poster intended to promote a fictional electronics company and the release of a new game.

I was tasked to incorporate various types of images in the production of the triptych, including: a digital photograph (Bookshelf), a scanned image (Logo) and a non-original image (Map.)

A consistent house style was an important consideration for the overall aesthetic.

I utilised Adobe’s Creative Suite to aid my endeavour. Photoshop and Illustrator were the predominant programs put into practice.

I received a distinction in this unit.
